Last month one of my favourite book stores closed its doors forever – Bouvier Buchhandlung in Bonn, Germany. Initially founded in 1828, Bouvier is a true legend in Bonn and the entire Rhineland area. A university book store with an amazing selection of just about any genre and well-informed and enthusiastic employees. Bouvier rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or ruled, rather.
The current store – directly opposite the university – was opened in 1958. A few years ago the company went bankrupt, then it was bought up by Thalia (which in turn belongs to Douglas Holdings, owner of the eponymous perfumeries). However, Thalia itself is in trouble at the moment and the company decided to not renew the building lease. The result: in July 2013 Bouvier closed down. And Bonn is in mourning. See the pic. RIP Bouvier.
