And here is the globe-M article: 47 Paar Schuhe.

Globe-M: “Glücksfälle – Störfälle” exhibition at Museum für Kommunikation – article

A few days ago I went to see the new temporary exhibition at the Museum für Kommunikation – “Glücksfälle – Störfälle. Facets of Intercultural Communication” – what a fabulous exposition. It is colourful, surprising and interactive with a very original exhibition architecture. Go and see it, it’s really worth it: exhibition website. And for those who read German: here is the globe-M article: Zwiebeln, Eisberge und ethnische Barbiepuppen.

“Chinesischer Herbst”: Aoiro fragrance exhibition “Smells of the City”

Next Friday and Saturday the Kühlhaus is showing the scent exhibition “Smells of the City” as part of the arts festival Chinesischer Herbst. Air designers Aoiro (http://aoiroair.com) will be recreating the characteristic smells of Beijing – I’m really looking foward to seeing how they’ll do it! I will also write my next Mintel retail trend article on the scent exhibition and the work of Aoiro. Check out their website, they do some really exciting stuff! EDIT: And here is the Mintel article on Aoiro’s scent exhibition: Aoiro brings the scents of Beijing to Berlin.

Globe-M: “Nostalgia”, early Russian colour photography at Gestalten gallery – article

Gestalten gallery (www.gestalten.com/space) in Berlin-Mitte is currently showing “Nostalgia”, a small exhibition of very early colour photographs by Russian photographer Michailowitch Prokudin-Gorski. In 1906 he travelled across Russia to systematically document the different regions, peoples and landscapes of Tsarist Russia; I love photography (especially early photography and travel photography) so I decided to make this my next globe-M article…..! Sophie-Gips-Höfe near Hacke’scher Markt. Free entry!

And here is the globe-M article about the exhibition: Farbenfrohes Zarenreich.

Globe-M: “Geschlossene Gesellschaft”, photography exhibition in Berlinische Galerie – article

Next week is going to be hectic! On 4th October the new photography exhibition at Berlinische Galerie museum opens: “Geschlossene Gesellschaft” – social and artsy photography in the German Democratic Republic 1949 to 1989. The exhibition features some 250 pictures by 34 photographers. I know next to nothing about GDR photography so this should be interesting. The exhibition starts at 7pm, free entry on the first night, check it out: Berlinische Galerie.

And here is the globe-M article: Geschlossene Gesellschaft.

Globe-M: Takehito Koganezawa performance at “Japan Next” – article

On Thursday 23rd August I attended “Japan Next. Künstler aus Japan – Im Fluss der zeitgenössischen Kunst”, a performance and discussion on contemporary Japanese art at Bethanien in Kreuzberg. Part of the “Echo” exhibition. And I was blown away by the performance of Japanese artist Takehito Koganezawa. Check him out!!! I hadn’t heard of him before (then again I don’t really know a great deal about contemporary performance/art) but apparently he is pretty famous. He lives in Berlin and has had some impressive exhibitions over here.

And he opened the talk/discussion at the Bethanien yesterday with an AMAZING performance; played on an Indian harmonium and combined this sound with colourful patterns generated by the electrical interference between two hand-held cameras that were thrown on the wall by a beamer. The patterns, not the cameras. At least that’s what happened, I think. I’m not too clear on the technology behind the artist’s performance but it was wonderful.

Check out my globe-M article here: Kunst im Zwischenraum.
