Globe-M: “Glücksfälle – Störfälle” exhibition at Museum für Kommunikation – article

A few days ago I went to see the new temporary exhibition at the Museum für Kommunikation – “Glücksfälle – Störfälle. Facets of Intercultural Communication” – what a fabulous exposition. It is colourful, surprising and interactive with a very original exhibition architecture. Go and see it, it’s really worth it: exhibition website. And for those who read German: here is the globe-M article: Zwiebeln, Eisberge und ethnische Barbiepuppen.

Store Profile: Saint Charles pharmacy in Berlin

Last week I visited a beautiful pharmacy in Berlin-Wilmersdorf – Saint Charles Apotheke (www.saintcharles.de), a partner store of the eponymous pharmacy in Vienna. They have a really unusual retail concept which is why I’m writing my December Cityscape article for Mintel on Saint Charles Berlin. Continue reading

“Chinesischer Herbst”: Aoiro fragrance exhibition “Smells of the City”

Next Friday and Saturday the Kühlhaus is showing the scent exhibition “Smells of the City” as part of the arts festival Chinesischer Herbst. Air designers Aoiro (http://aoiroair.com) will be recreating the characteristic smells of Beijing – I’m really looking foward to seeing how they’ll do it! I will also write my next Mintel retail trend article on the scent exhibition and the work of Aoiro. Check out their website, they do some really exciting stuff! EDIT: And here is the Mintel article on Aoiro’s scent exhibition: Aoiro brings the scents of Beijing to Berlin.

Globe-M: “Nostalgia”, early Russian colour photography at Gestalten gallery – article

Gestalten gallery (www.gestalten.com/space) in Berlin-Mitte is currently showing “Nostalgia”, a small exhibition of very early colour photographs by Russian photographer Michailowitch Prokudin-Gorski. In 1906 he travelled across Russia to systematically document the different regions, peoples and landscapes of Tsarist Russia; I love photography (especially early photography and travel photography) so I decided to make this my next globe-M article…..! Sophie-Gips-Höfe near Hacke’scher Markt. Free entry!

And here is the globe-M article about the exhibition: Farbenfrohes Zarenreich.

“Chinesischer Herbst”: Beijing Young Dramatists Association performance

I went to see some of the exhibitions of Chinesischer Herbst in the Kühlhaus yesterday (a really great location, by the way!) and stayed to watch a performance by the Beijing Young Dramatists Association – utterly riveting; they performed “Zen – Tea”, a modern dance interpretation of an old chinese tea poem. Here are some pics, if you’re in Berlin today or tomorrow, go and catch one of their performances, it is so worth it:

“Chinesischer Herbst”: contemporary Chinese art festival at Kühlhaus, Berlin

This week I’ll visit some of the photography exhibitions of Chinesischer Herbst, a cultural festival presenting contemporary Chinese art. I’ll be reporting for globe-M but I would have gone anyway – the programme sounds fascinating, photography, video art, performances, movies and concerts….check it out here (German only, sorry! www.kuehlhaus.de)! The festival takes place near U2 station Gleisdreieck.

I also want to attend the Anna von Schrottenberg concert and of course see the ‘fragrance exhibition’ which portrays the different scents associated with the city of Beijing – the curators are calling it an ‘air design installation’! Exciting!!!!

And here is the globe-M article: (Jahres-) Zeitenwechsel.

Retail notes from Prague: Beauty retail in the Czech capital

I just returned from four days in Prague, it was very cold and snowy but beautiful. This was my first visit to the city since a school trip back in 1992. Besides sightseeing, shopping and eating I also spent a lot of time checking out the local cosmetics stores. Continue reading
