Last week I was in Düsseldorf to visit Beauty International, Germany’s most important trade show for salon C&T. Beauty International 2014 was as busy – and as interesting – as last year’s show. Besides the usual big German exhibitors like Babor, Dr. Grandel or Alessandro International I noticed a number of organic beauty brands, including Annané and Aiomyth from Switzerland, Amala from Germany and Zinobel Organic Boost from Denmark.
Salon C&T is usually very conventional indeed so the presence of organic brands came as a bit of a surprise to me. However, organic and sustainable is a big trend in salon cosmetics and even more so in the spa and wellness industry. Most of the organic brands I spoke to were first time exhibitors at Beauty International.
I met Jörn Volk from Aiomyth at Vivaness in Nuremberg last year – Aiomyth was one of the Breeze exhibitors in 2013. The company has a beautifully packaged range of body care products which includes lavender bath salts, a body oil and body wash, a shower scrub, hand and foot cream. Aiomyth’s latest launch is a body lotion with pomegranate extract.
Premium organic skin care brand Annané is also from Switzerland. I had a nice chat with founder Urs Pohlmann and received a complimentary face treatment (thank you Tom Vink from United Style salon in Bamberg!). Annané has a very selective distribution – in Berlin, for example, the brand is available in KaDeWe department store – and the current product portfolio comprises eleven products.
Amala belongs to aromatherapy manufacturer Primavera and is a luxury spa brand with several product ranges – the skin care portfolio includes the Hydrate line with jasmine, Rejuvenate with cacao bean extract and Purify with blue lotus whilst Detoxify is a body care range formulated with myrrh.
And Zinobel Organic Boost, founded by Joan Arler three years ago, is a charming Danish anti-ageing skin care brand that is currently looking for a distributor in Germany. Zinobel’s portfolio includes a day cream and a night cream which are both available as a fragrance-free version (a great idea!), a facial serum and facial oil, sun care cream, facial cleanser and a body oil.
The ingredients are gorgous – the day cream, night cream and serum and even the sun cream have organic aloe vera listed in first place on the INCI declaration. I really hope that Zinobel will be available in Germany soon!
