Künstlerhaus Bethanien is opening a new exhibition on 24th May 2013 which showcases the works of over 50 Berlin-based artists born between 1978 and 1984. Berlin.Status [2] takes a look at contemporary creative and artistic tendencies in the city – it’s a kind of follow-up exhibition to a similar show Bethanien organised last year, hence the [2] in the exhibition name. Market: Voodoo Market in June 2013, Friedrichshain
Over the past few years I’ve come across quite a few Voodoo Market posters (it takes place every once in a while – twice a year or something like that?) It’s an arts/crafts/vintage/designer market, check it out here: http://voodoomarket.wordpress.com/. The next Voodoo Market (organised in cooperation with Hamburg-based Mädelsflohmarkt ) will take place on Saturday, 8th June 2013 from 1pm to 8pm at Urban Spree (another location I’ve been meaning to visit!) and I fully intend to go this time!

Mintel article: Saint Charles Pharmacy Berlin
Here’s the article I wrote about Saint Charles Apotheke for Mintel’s BPC website: Saint Charles Berlin. Enjoy! My April feature will be on niche perfumery store Belle Rebelle in Charlottenburg.
Chinese film festival at Arsenal Kino: “Ein Lied um Mitternacht. Chinesische Filmgeschichte von 1929 bis 1964”
Arsenal Kino is still showing historic Chinese films as part of their “Ein Lied um Mitternacht” festival which runs until the end of March. I missed the first half of the film festival but I’ll try and squeeze in at least a couple of films next week. I’m off to Asia for a month just after Easter (Singapore and Bangkok!) so I’m quite busy with work at the moment. But how often do you get to see Chinese silent movies from the 1930s or political dramas from the 1960s? Exactly. This Sunday I’ll go and see “Uproar in Heaven”, an animated movie from 1964. Here is the cinema website with more details about the festival: www.arsenal-berlin.de/kino-arsenal.

Exhibition: “New Kids On The Block” at Tanas Gallery
Tanas Gallery in Heidestraße is opening a new exhibition in March – New Kids On The Block, curated by artist Ayşe Erkmen. The group exhibition is showing the works of 22 young artists from seven countries – check out the exhibition website: Tanas; it looks very exciting! The vernissage is on Friday, 15th March 2013, 6 to 9 pm and the exhibition will run until 11th May 2013. I’ll have to give the opening a miss since I’ll be in Düsseldorf at a trade show (Beauty International) but I’ll definitely visit the exhibition.

Niche Parfum & Showroom – Art and indie fragrances in Prenzlauer Berg
Earlier this week I visited Niche (store website), a brand new art-and-perfume store in Rykestraße 16. Artist Chris Gräfensteiner opened her fragrance/showroom in December; she sells her own artwork, fragrances from L’Artisan Parfumeur and Six Scents and Berlin accessories label Wanawake. A beautiful store and a really cool retail concept; Niche will also be my next Mintel article.
Store Profile: Wheadon – Organic C&T in Berlin
I recently visited Wheadon, a perfumery in Steinstrasse 17 in Mitte, just off Rosenthaler Strasse. Owner Nicole Wheadon opened her store last June. Continue reading
