Globe-M: Cyberfest 2013 – article

Arts house The Wye has brought the Cyberfest new media art event over from Russia: five days of exciting art/sound installations, performances, workshops, lectures, screening and concerts – check out the programme!! Cyberfest 2013: Time & Place kicks off on Wednesday, 13th November, at 8pm – and all events are free (yay!).

And here is the globe-M article on Cyberfest 2013, freshly posted: Cyber//Art. I visited the exhibitions in The Wye on Wednesday and completely fell in love with “Aesthetics of Decay: Design for Dying Electronics”, a multimedia installation by Disney Nasa Borg which can be seen on The Wye’s ground floor. My favourites on the second floor exhibition room include “Movie Mincer” by Sergey Teterin – a metal meat mincer connected to a laptop and beamer; when you turn the handle you can screen a silent movie film clip (George Méliès’ “A Trip to the Moon” from 1902!). When the handle pauses, the film stops. Continue reading

Exhibition: “Spatial Structures” at The Wye, Kreuzberg

This Friday evening a new exhibition opens at The Wye on Skalitzer Strasse (Kreuzberg): “Spatial Structures” features works by artist Jenny Keuter – check out the exhibition website, it looks great; I think I might write an article for globe-M on this. The vernissage is from 7pm to 10pm on Friday, 20th September at The Wye.

Globe-M: “The Unanswered Question. İskele 2” at Tanas gallery – article

“The Unanswered Question. İskele 2” is a cooperation between Tanas and the Neue Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) and presents international artists, musicians and performers from Turkey and the surrounding geopolitical areas. It is also Tanas’ very last exhibition since the arts space is going to close its doors this year. Sniff.

The exhibition is accompanied by a series of performances and other events that will take place at Tanas, HAU (Hebbel am Ufer) theatre and n.b.k. More information here: www.tanasberlin.de/index.php?lang=en&nav=vorschau. The exhibition opens on 8th September 2013 and the vernissage is on Saturday, 7th: from 5-7pm at Tanas and from 7pm onwards there’ll be a concert and party at n.b.k. Yay!

And here is my globe-M article: Ankunft und Abschied.

Exhibition: “Meret Oppenheim – Retrospektive” at Gropius-Bau

Tomorrow the Meret Oppenheim retrospective will officially open in the Gropius-Bau art museum near Potsdamer Platz. The museum had the official pre-opening press conference today and the participants were able to view the exhibition in advance. For those who don’t know who Meret Oppenheim was (I didn’t initially): she is – or rather was – one of the most important female Surrealist artists of the 20th Century!

Globe-M: “Phnom Penh: Rescue Archaeology” exhibition at ifa gallery in Berlin – article

The ifa gallery in Linienstraße is still showing its exhibition “Phnom Penh: Rescue Archaeology” (German title: “Phnom Penh: Das Verschwinden verhindern”) – contemporary Cambodian art.

The exhibition is excellent, go and see it, entry is free. Here is the link to the globe-M article I posted today: Der verschwundene See oder die Kontinuität des Wandels. It is even longer than my usual globe-M output but the whole topic was so interesting that I really couldn’t help myself.

Check out these links as well: Stiev Selapak, a Cambodian arts collective and Meta House Phnom Penh, a German-Cambodian cultural centre founded by Niko Mesterharm. I wish I’d known about Meta House and Stiev Selapak last year when I was in Phnom Penh….!!

And if you’re visiting the ifa gallery, stop for a coffee at Atelier Cacao next door – one of my favourite Berlin chocolate manufacturers (they do a milk chocolate with liquorice which is simply divine!). They also have a gorgeous café with outdoor seating, home made ice cream and chocolate confectionery and, if you have children with you, a very nicely furnished play area. Highly recommended.
