Globe-M: Cyberfest 2013 – article

Arts house The Wye has brought the Cyberfest new media art event over from Russia: five days of exciting art/sound installations, performances, workshops, lectures, screening and concerts – check out the programme!! Cyberfest 2013: Time & Place kicks off on Wednesday, 13th November, at 8pm – and all events are free (yay!).

And here is the globe-M article on Cyberfest 2013, freshly posted: Cyber//Art. I visited the exhibitions in The Wye on Wednesday and completely fell in love with “Aesthetics of Decay: Design for Dying Electronics”, a multimedia installation by Disney Nasa Borg which can be seen on The Wye’s ground floor. My favourites on the second floor exhibition room include “Movie Mincer” by Sergey Teterin – a metal meat mincer connected to a laptop and beamer; when you turn the handle you can screen a silent movie film clip (George Méliès’ “A Trip to the Moon” from 1902!). When the handle pauses, the film stops. Continue reading

Globe-M: “Bin ich schön?” at Museum für Kommunikation – article

The Museum for Communication has just opened its new exhibition: “Am I Beautiful?” looks at the cultural and biological ideals of beauty. Museum für Kommunikation is one of my favourite exhibition spaces in Mitte. It is located in a gorgeous building from 1898 directly on Leipziger Strasse. They have a well-structured and interactive permanent exhibition (a great place to visit if you have kids) and temporary exhibits dealing with trends, society, information, communication and interaction. Documentary: “The Human Scale” – urban city planning

This afternoon I watched a screening of The Human Scale, a Danish documentary on city planning. Fascinating topic: Half of the human population lives in cities or urban agglomerations. By 2050 this number will reach 80%. Europe has it comparatively easy: over here cities and towns tend to be low-rise and quite accessible. And even cities like London or Paris are compact and well-administrated when compared to the sprawling, congested, traffic-clogged mega cities of Asia and the Indian Sub-Continent – or South/Latin America, for that matter; I would imagine problems in Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo are much the same. Natural Cosmetics Conference 2013: [Show Report] Authenticity, consumer insights and LOR

The Natural Cosmetics Conference took place this Tuesday and Wednesday here in Berlin. It’s the third year that I’ve attended the event and, as always, it was very worthwhile. Interesting people, good keynote speakers and well-chosen discussion topics, not to mention a very nice venue!

This year the Branchenkongress had a strong sociodemographic focus; the first day especially revolved around demographics and market research, trends and consumer behaviour – exactly my areas of interest so I took lots of notes. Here’s a brief review (find out all about LOR!): Continue reading
